"I was inspired by the medieval era and my fascination with crystals when creating this piece. I wanted to bring together these two worlds that I deeply enjoy exploring.
For me, the painting carries a sense of optimism and possibility. I imagined the figure as someone poised to set off on a journey, ready to embrace whatever lies ahead. This reminded me of The Fool in Tarot, which represents new beginnings, courage, and the willingness to step into the unknown with trust and curiosity."

Barbarian Flower, aka Sze Yan, is a visual artist/illustrator based in Malaysia. Her illustration journey began with a deep fascination for Japanese and Hong Kong vintage aesthetics. Most of her work focuses on editorial illustrations for European magazines and music cover artwork. Her work is often described as delicate, imbued with nostalgia, and touched by a sense of whimsy.
